Spring sports weekly recap: April 8-14

Once again, last week's schedule was disrupted by bad weather, but our teams managed to get some contests in. Here is where each team stands:

Baseball

The varsity baseball team played two games against Mars last week. At home, North Hills won 9-4, but on the road, they fell 9-2. Overall, the team is now 3-1 in section play. The JV team went 1-0 last week, improving to 4-0 overall.

Softball

Varsity softball also played two games last week, losing to Shaler Area and defeating Penn Hills. With the 1-1 record, the girls now own a 5-2 record this spring. The JV team was able to get one game in last week against Shaler Area.

Girls’ Lacrosse

Girls’ lacrosse played only one game last week, and it was a dominant shutout win over Allderdice. Through the first eight games of the season, the varsity team is 5-3.

Boys’ Lacrosse

The varsity boys’ lacrosse team played two games last week. They started with a 16-5 win against Allderdice before losing to Shady Side Academy to bring them to 1-1 on the week. So far this season, the boys are 3-3.

Track & Field

The varsity track team celebrated senior day last week against Seneca Valley in its only home meet of 2024. Both the boys and the girls put forth strong efforts against the Raiders.

Boys’ Tennis

Last week was the WPIAL Singles for boys’ tennis, and senior Josh Kim entered the competition as the nine-seed. He picked up a win in round one before being eliminated in round two. Section doubles will take place this week, as well as a return to team play.

Boys’ Volleyball

The boys’ varsity volleyball team played two road matches last week. The team lost to North Allegheny first, then picked up an important 3-2 over Pine-Richland. Overall, the boys are 4-3 this spring. JV volleyball went 0-2 and is now 3-4 this season.

Girls’ Flag Football

Girls’ flag football was in action for the second time this spring when the team traveled to Shaler on Sunday. The girls played games against North Allegheny and Seneca Valley.
