Freshman Ellie Kim traveled to North Allegheny on Wednesday to compete in the WPIAL 3A Girls' Tennis Singles Championships.

Ellie finished third in the section tournament last week to earn her spot in Wednesday's event. She was awarded the 15-seed in the WPIAL Championships, but she played well above her rank.

Her first-round opponent was the 2-seed and a senior, but that didn't stop Ellie from trading points in the early stages of the match. She found herself in a 5-5 tie before ultimately losing the match, 10-6.

As a freshman, she gained incredible experience at the WPIAL Championships, and she showed no signs of giving up, as she played hard and gave herself a chance to win every point.
