January is rolling right along, and our winter sports schedules are ramping up. Here’s what happened last week in NH athletics:

Girls’ Basketball

The varsity girls’ basketball team lost a pair of tightly-contested games last week to bring its record to 4-9 entering this week. At the middle school level, both teams went 2-0 last week, sending the eighth grade team to 7-3 and keeping the seventh grade team undefeated.

Boys’ Basketball

Boys’ varsity basketball improved to 10-2 with victories over West Allegheny and South Fayette last week. The boys have not lost in 2023 and are undefeated in the section so far this season.

Freshman basketball picked up two more wins last week to get to 12-1 on the year. Both middle school teams also went 2-0.

Swimming and Diving

The boys’ and girls’ varsity swimming and diving teams took on Shaler Area last week and earned wins. The girls won 102-61, while the boys earned a 94-76 victory.

Wrestling

Varsity wrestling took down Mars last Wednesday to improve to 8-2 on the season. Over the weekend, the team wrestled in the Burgettstown Invitational and placed sixth out of 33 teams.

Gymnastics

The gymnastics team did not compete but will have its first and only home meet of the season this week.

Unified Bocce

North Hills made its Unified Bocce debut last Tuesday when the newly-formed teams hosted Avonworth. The Special Olympics-sponsored event was a hit, and although the Indians didn’t win, it was a great experience for everyone involved.
