Party like it’s 1980: Girls’ basketball ends section championship drought
Party like it’s 1980: Girls’ basketball ends section championship drought
Updated on 04/30/2024

For the first time in 44 years, the North Hills girls’ varsity basketball team has won a section championship.

Entering play on Thursday, the girls were 9-2 in section play and needed a road win over Hampton to match Armstrong’s 10-2 mark and earn a share of the section title. The Talbots had pulled off a surprising victory over the Indians earlier this season, but the second meeting would be different.

With a 44-39 victory, North Hills now sits atop its section for the first time since 1980. The team had already clinched its first playoff berth in nearly a decade, and now it has a well-deserved section title to go with it.

Only two years ago, the girls’ basketball team at North Hills put together a one-win season. Now, the girls are in the postseason with one of their best campaigns in a long time.

Dates, times, and opponents for the first round of the WPIAL playoffs will be released on Monday.

Congratulations on an incredible regular season!
