On Friday night, the girls’ basketball team traveled to Fox Chapel for a WPIAL Quarterfinal matchup against top-ranked Oakland Catholic.
Coming off the program’s first playoff win since 1979, the girls battled against a tough opponent. The first quarter saw North Hills struggle to keep possession of the ball and make clean plays offensively, yet they settled in, played strong defense, and kept the game within reach for much of the first half.
In the second half, Oakland Catholic started hot and pulled out to a double-digit lead. The Indians played well, but a tough night offensively prevented them from climbing back into the game. In the end, the Eagles advanced with a 47-28 win.
For North Hills, the loss ends their hopes of claiming a WPIAL title, but it does not end their season. The girls will be back in action on Monday night when they head to Lincoln Park in a consolation game with PIAA postseason implications. Tickets can be purchased via the GoFan website.
With a win on Monday, the girls would clinch a spot in the PIAA tournament and would play on Thursday for seeding. A loss would put the Indians in a win-or-go-home scenario on Thursday.
It’s been a great season so far, and it’s not done yet. Good luck, girls!
