On Thursday, the North Hills swimming and diving teams traveled to the University of Pittsburgh to compete in the WPIAL Swimming Championships.
North Hills had eight individuals/relay teams compete on day one of the two-day championships. Almost everyone posted a time that was better than their qualifying times, and overall, the Indians had a great day.
Three relays earned top-ten finishes. On the boys’ side, Cory Chen, Dane Fazio, Conor Greer, and Othmane Eljoufri competed in the 200 medley relay and the 200 freestyle relay. They placed seventh and ninth, respectively, earning a medal in the former while also setting a school record with a time of 1:38.63.
On the girls’ side, the relays were swum by Ella Crowley, Paige Lange, Maddie Dube, Amanda Bliss, and Casey Chen. The foursome that swam in the 200 medley relay earned a tenth-place finish.
In addition to the success of the relay teams, senior Dane Fazio earned third place in the 50 freestyle with a time of 21.21. It was the best individual finish of his career in the WPIAL Championships.
With day one in the books, the attention shifts to day two, where North Hills will have five individuals/relay teams in action. The meet will begin at 9:45 AM, and tickets are available at the door for $10.
Congratulations to the swimmers who competed on Thursday, and good luck to those competing on Friday!
