Spring sports weekly recap: April 15-21
Posted on 04/22/2024

The weather finally started to cooperate last week, so our teams were able to play most of their contests. Below is a recap of last week’s action.

Baseball

The varsity baseball team played a two-game series with Moon last week and won both games. The 14-7 and 7-1 victories sent the Indians to 5-1 in the section, which keeps them in first place heading into this week.

Softball

On back-to-back days, the varsity softball team steamrolled its opponents, winning its games by the combined score of 36-1. The girls ended the week with an 18-8 victory over Plum to go 3-0 last week and move to 8-2 overall.

Girls’ Lacrosse

Varsity lacrosse had a tough schedule last week with all three of their games on the road, and they came away with a 1-2 record. They beat Seneca Valley 14-8 before falling to Pine-Richland and Norwin. Overall, the girls are now 6-5 on the season.

Boys’ Lacrosse

Boys’ lacrosse was also exclusively on the road last week, taking on Greater Latrobe and North Allegheny. The boys beat the former and lost to the latter, and their 1-1 record last week makes them 4-4 on the season.

Track & Field

The varsity track and field team has officially reached invite season and traveled to Butler for the Butler Invitational. Kayden Lightner, Gama Mogire, Jack Martin, the boys’ 4X800 relay, the girls’ 4X400 relay, and the girls’ 4X800 relay all earned medals at the meet.

Boys’ Tennis

Section doubles were last week for the boys’ tennis team, but no one from North Hills advanced. As a team, the boys went 1-2 with a win over Seneca Valley and losses to Moon and Pine-Richland. Despite the losses, the team is still on the cusp of qualifying for the playoffs.

Boys’ Volleyball

The boys’ varsity volleyball team played once last week and lost at home against Shaler Area. Overall, the team is 4-4 on the season. The JV team lost to fall to 3-5, while the middle school teams continued to have a solid season.

Girls’ Flag Football

The girls’ flag football team played at home last week for the first and only time this season. They faced off against North Allegheny and Shaler Area and came away with one loss and one tie.
