April has nearly come to an end, which means that the spring sports regular season is winding down. Here is where our teams stand as the playoffs loom:
Baseball
Varsity baseball played a two-game series against Shaler Area last week and split with the Titans. North Hills is now 6-2 in section play, which has the team tied for first place in the section with two games to play against West Allegheny, the other team tied for first place.
Softball
Varsity softball went 2-0 last week, picking up a key victory over Shaler. As it stands entering this week, North Hills sits alone in first place in the section and can claim the section title with wins against Oakland Catholic and Penn Hills.
Girls’ Lacrosse
The varsity team picked up a huge win over Shaler Area at home to start last week, locking them into a playoff spot. Later in the week, they went toe to toe with North Allegheny with playoff positioning at stake but were unable to claim fourth place. The girls end section play with a 5-4 record.
Boys’ Lacrosse
Last week was a tough week for the boys’ lacrosse team, which went winless in its three games. Despite a difficult stretch of games, the boys still have an opportunity to claim a playoff spot with a couple of important section matchups still to come.
Track & Field
Varsity track and field competed in the Seneca Valley Invitational last week. Top-three finishers included Gama Mogire (first place, twice), Gianna Sturdivant (first), Logan Ilnicki (third), Emma Hartle (second), and the boys’ 4X400 relay (first).
In addition, a group of distance runners participated in the South Fayette Invitational on Saturday, and Kayden Lightner took home a first-place finish.
Boys’ Tennis
The boys’ tennis team played two matches last week against Canon McMillan and Valley. This week, the team will shift its attention to the team playoffs as it gets set to take on Penn-Trafford in postseason action on Monday.
Boys’ Volleyball
The boys’ volleyball team is coming off a disappointing week, going 0-3 against Butler, Fox Chapel, and North Allegheny. With the losses, the boys will likely miss the postseason this year, though they still have a few opportunities to claim section wins.
Girls’ Flag Football
The girls’ flag football team traveled to North Allegheny on Sunday and picked up a win for the first time this season. The girls are now over halfway through the season, with four weekends in the books and two still to play.
