Spring sports weekly recap: April 29-May 5
Spring sports weekly recap: April 29-May 5
Posted on 05/06/2024

May is here and so too is the end of the regular season. Here is a recap of how our teams are wrapping up their seasons and preparing for the playoffs.

Baseball

The varsity team wrapped up section play last week, splitting their two-game series against West Allegheny to become section co-champions. This is the team’s first section title since 2018. They finished the week with a win against Fox Chapel.

Softball

Like the baseball team, the softball team started the week with a section win that clinched a share of the section title. A win on Thursday in the section finale gave the Indians the outright section championship, which is their second title in the last three years.

Girls’ Lacrosse

Last week was a successful week for girls’ lacrosse as well, as the girls went 2-0, outscoring their opponents 35-6. They are now 9-6 this spring and will wrap up the regular season next week before moving on to the playoffs.

Boys’ Lacrosse

Boys’ lacrosse had a chance to claim a postseason berth last week but unfortunately came up short against Fox Chapel. A matchup with Butler this week will likely be the team’s last opportunity to qualify for the playoffs.

Track & Field

The varsity track team competed in the Pine-Richland Invitational last week as they inch closer to the WPIAL Championships. This week’s Last Chance Invitational at Pine-Richland will be the last meet before WPIAL competition.

Boys’ Tennis

The varsity boys’ tennis team played in the WPIAL Team Championships last week, advancing through the preliminary round with a 5-0 win over Penn-Trafford. Later in the week, the boys faced Gateway and fell in the first round. Congratulations to the boys on a great season!

Boys’ Volleyball

Boys’ volleyball played three matches last week and posted a 1-2 record. A 3-0 win over playoff-bound Bethel Park was the highlight of the week, though a tightly contested 2-3 loss to Pine-Richland was also a strong performance by the Indians.

Girls’ Flag Football

Coming off their first win of the spring, the girls’ flag football team traveled to Seneca Valley on Sunday. They have one more set of games coming up this Sunday to conclude the 2024 season.
