Wednesday’s matchup between North Hills and Thomas Jefferson was an entertaining one that saw the lower seed pull off a second straight upset.
The Indians came into their quarterfinal matchup after narrowly escaping Mars in the first round of the WPIAL tournament. They were looking for a better start to Wednesday’s game and got it, leading 3-2 after the first inning.
A few innings later, though, the Jaguars pulled ahead, putting the Indians in a two-run hole. In the matchup between North Hills’s high-powered offense and Thomas Jefferson’s stellar defense, it was the tenth-seeded Jaguars who ultimately won 6-4.
The loss sends TJ to the WPIAL 5A semifinals and ends the 2024 campaign for North Hills. While not the outcome North Hills was hoping for, it should not be overlooked that this spring was an impressive one for a young team. With a 13-4 record and a section championship under their belts, these girls will be back to make another run next season.
Congratulations, girls, on a great season!
