Fall sports weekly recap: September 23-28
Updated on 09/30/2024

September has nearly come to a close, which means the fall sports season is winding down for some of our teams. For others, the push for the playoffs is just beginning. Here is a look at where our teams stand:

Cross Country

Varsity cross country ran against North Allegheny and Seneca Valley last week. Both the boys (19-38, 26-29) and girls (17-46, 21-34) went 0-2 but still ran strong races.

Then, over the weekend, the teams participated in the Youthtowne Clash. The varsity boys finished in second place, while the girls finished in fifth. The JV boys claimed first place. Across all teams, North Hills had 12 individual award winners.

Football

The varsity football team hit the road last week to take on the Norwin Knights. North Hills picked up a 24-7 win to improve its record to 5-1 this season (1-1 in section play).

Golf

Last week, senior Kasey Toia played in the WPIAL Individual Championships and finished tied for 22nd. As a result, he advanced and will be playing at Oakmont Country Club this week.

Girls’ Soccer

Girls' varsity soccer played only one game last week, and it was a hard-fought match against North Allegheny. The 0-3 loss against the Tigers drops North Hills to 2-9 this season.

Boys’ Soccer

The varsity boys' soccer team beat Knoch on senior night last week to set the stage for a key section matchup against North Allegheny. That game on Thursday night was tightly matched throughout, but North Hills saw its four-game winning streak come to an end. The boys will head into October with a 9-5 record (3-3 in the section).

Girls’ Volleyball

Last week, the girls' volleyball team lost to Seneca Valley and Shaler Area. Despite a couple of close sets, both matches ended 3-0. The girls will take a 2-8 record into October.

Girls’ Tennis

Last week was section doubles for the varsity tennis team, and Ellie Kim and Adelaide Seigworth finished in second place, clinching a spot in the WPIAL Championships in the process. They will compete as the tournament's eight-seed this week.
