North Hills freshman basketball team knocks off Shaler in OT

The North Hills 9th grade basketball team won its third consecutive game Thursday, and the Indians had to put in some extra time to get the 'W.'

North Hills and Shaler went to overtime before North Hills came away with a 62-54 victory at the Senior High gymnasium. 

Shaler hit a 3-pointer with 15 seconds left in regulation to tie the game, 52-52. Shaler scored the first basket in overtime, but did not score again. North Hills scored the final 10 points to pull out the win.

A number of players made key contributions for North Hills. Austin Ellis scored 19 points for North Hills and pulled down a number of big rebounds. Jack Broderick also scored 19 and made 9 of 10 free throws. Ellis made 5 of 7 from the line. Mike Murphy had 14 for the Indians. Liam Connolly had double figures in rebounds.

North Hills was 9 of 10 from the free-throw line the fourth quarter and overtimes.

The win came two days after North Hills beat Shady Side Academy, 46-25. North Hills led by 33-9 at halftime. Nick Richter scored 13, Mike Murphy 11 and Jack Broderick 10.
