North Hills Girls' Varsity Tennis hosted the Moon Area team on Wednesday, August 30. After almost 3 hours and some tight matches, the girls unfortunately fell with a score of 2-3.
In dominating fashion, sophomore and co-captain Ellie Kim earned the team's first point at the number one singles position against senior Ria Khazanchi (6-2, 6-0). At third singles, sophomore Addie Seigworth fought hard against senior Tierney Burke for over an hour and a half, but eventually fell short (1-6, 3-6).
Co-captain Mallory Pierce and Julia Yeloushan gave it their all against a very experienced Moon 1st doubles team. This was only the 3rd match the two seniors have played together, which proved to be a tough challenge against Moon's seniors Sydney Blewett and Ava Neff (0-6, 1-6).
Junior Hannah Kreigline and Senior Abby Krogmann played incredibly at the net and communicated together as a team to beat Moon's Evie Wise and Nithya Kaarthi with a score of 6-1, 6-4. This is the 2nd section win for the second doubles duo. Way to go, girls!
In a tough pressure situation, second singles player and senior Anna Tikhomirova was still in her second set as the four other points had been decided. Anna was facing opponent Kiera Wise who she lost to last season with a score of 1-6, 1-6. This time, Anna lost her first set 5-7 with back and forth lead changes throughout. With complete silence during play and team cheers after points, Anna eventually fell in a tight match with a score of 4-6 in her second set. Anna kept amazing composure, perseverance and showed her true leadership as a co-captain of the team.
Great match, girls! The team is 1-1 in the section and 2-2 overall. Come cheer on the girls, Tuesday, 9/5 for a section match at home against Seneca Valley @ 3:30.
